St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was not Irish
Ok, now tell me some other weird shit you heard recently..... yes I know we can't lick our fucking elbows....something original, more original than mine.....
In 30 days I'll pick a winner and send them an I-Pod Touch..... if you're not in North America though I'll transfer cash in lieu of an I-Pod
Amer Rhys has now won.... new contest to be announced soon....
Biology part is not completely true. At the bottom of the sea and deep underground there is a class of organisms called "chemoautotrophs." Breaking that word down, we get:
Chemo = chemical
auto = self
troph = nourishment
Meaning that they are able to provide nourishment for themselves using only chemical compounds, primarily carbon dioxide. In these hostile environments, such organisms are the primary producers, but require no sunlight.
the world record for the highest jump of a pig is 70cm (27,56")?
I think we can conjure up a pig that can beat that record! Whattaya say?
51% of all male Britons have sexual fantasies including David Beckham?
What?? How do you know this? Did you ask them? Who paid for the hospital bill? Oh yes, free health care riiiight.
in 1990 the average video gamer was 18 years old, today 33?
Ahh, but you see today that 18 year old is 47! It's a wonder that average today isn't older!
being stoned Ozzy Osbourne once shot all of his 17 cats?
I'd like the source of this one. That's gruesome even for a guy who bit the head off a dove during a board meeting. Mini fact: looking up his Wikipedia page, he had a rather honorable sounding birth name that would rock even if he didn't change it. John Michael Osbourne. Sounds like one a famous naval admiral would have, I think. You know, like Zeppelin bass player, John Paul Jones.
prisonbreak is not a crime?
What? Maybe it isn't technically to save the court's time. If you're booked a sentence in prison, and you aren't there, guess there's no need for prosecution.
in WWII Soviets employed anti-tank dogs against Germany while Americans persued the idea of mobilizing bat bombs against Japan?
I think I've seen something on the history channel about the bomb bats. I think they were to start a fire somehow, since Japanese cities were mostly wood and bats hide in small crevices. I'm assuming the anti-tank dogs would have explosives tied to them. I wonder how they'd keep the dogs going after the tanks, after seeing one of them explode near one. Dogs aren't that dumb.
...United States bought the Louisiana Territory from France. For 15 Million USD (Because this was paid in installments, the total including interest was $23,213,568.)
I decided that my "Did you know?" post will relate to global warming after reading an extremely disturbing post on the IPower General Forum. I will also be compiling a lengthy and in depth post on this over the next couple of days. Hope that this opens some peoples eyes.
Did You Know...
That we have already committed 20% of the plant and animal species on Earth to extinction by 2100? That is...if right now, this very second, all global emissions stopped completely, I mean 100% reduction, 20% of the species on Earth will still go extinct within 100 years.
Now this may not be understood because a lot of people don't understand anything about global warming other than what the media has said and propaganda films that use the same methods as zeitgeist and the obama deception. Unfortunately the media is about 15 years behind science as to the dangers and effects of global warming. The Green House Gases(GHG) are the main cause for this warming, and they include primarily CO2, CH4(methane), and N2O(nitrous oxide). For simplicities purposes I will be talking mostly about CO2.
For every gallon of gas that is burned ~19 pounds (8.61Kg) of carbon are released into the atmosphere, and the average US citizen generates more than 20 tons of CO2 every year. The thing most people don't realize is that on average each molecule of CO2 stays in the atmosphere for 100 years, so this means that even if we cut all emissions this very second global temperature will continue to rise for 100 years. The moderate estimates, not the extreme ones, predict that if we cut all emissions now, by the end of 2100 the global temperature will still rise by .6-.8 degrees.
However it is very unlikely that as you read this that the powers at be are going to wake up and do something about this. So the models that show us going about "business as usual" predict a >4 degree rise in global temperature. While 4 degrees may not seem like much, think about it this way. When the Earth was 5 degrees cooler we were at the height of the Ice Age, most of Europe and North America were covered with ice and was unsuitable for habitat, much less agriculture.
A 4 degree rise in temperature would be disastrous for Biodiversity, the most moderate estimates predict at least 60% of all species being wiped out. As temperature rises habitats become unsuitable for species and while suitable habitats could possibly exist for them elsewhere they need to be able to reach these habitats to survive. Right now 35% of European woodland herb species are expected to be extinct by 2100, in order for most of these plants to survive they need to migrate ~6 miles/year (9.65km/year). Guess what the average range shift of these species is? Less than 5 feet/year (1.52meter/year). And this is only if there is suitable habitat for them to travel this distance between (which mass urbanization and clear cutting has made impossible). Do you think the governments that wont even significantly fund green research and ecosystem preservation are going to go around transposing species?
Not only will this have an effect on plants and animals, but it will have a huge impact on humans. I'm sure most of you remember the summer of 2003 when 40,000 of our European counterparts died from heat stress. This was what we call a 1 in 100 year event, that is that only once every hundred years or so we see a phenom on like this. We are talking about an area of the world that is very modernized, has plenty of access to AC, water, and medical attention. The problem was that this heat wave evaporated so much water that power plants could no longer be cooled causing blackouts, and wells dried up. By 2100 every other summer is anticipated to be as bad if not worse than the heat waves we saw back in 2003. So we will have gone from a 1 in 100 to a 1 in 2 year event. Imagine whats going to happen to those in the third world as famine and disease rage across continents.
Also want to note that all of these climate change predictions do not include positive feed backs. These feed backs are self reinforcing system devices that Earth has, but we don't know how great of an effect they have. This doesn't mean they have little effect, quite the opposite we know they have an enormous effect and scientists don't want to underestimate them so do not include them in their calculations. This means that these predictions are pretty much the bare minimum that you can expect to see in our life time. Hopefully when i get my full length article done you can appreciate this more, as there is a lot, I mean a lot I left out.
Well that's all for now I will be writing a far more in depth article later that will have countless more examples of effects both on animals and plants and on future generations. Any questions just email me.
